It seems a bit strange that companies would give people money just to give their feedback and opinions. Wouldn't they just get back a bunch of nonsense from people trying to make a quick buck? Do these companies actually pay people to do this or what!
Well, the fact is, it's not as strange as it sounds. Paid surveys have been around for a long time. Even in academics, psychologist and other professors have been paying people to talk about their experiences. In my early days at university, I was actually forced to take part in 2 surveys to get my course credit.
Large corporations have always looked to the public to give them marketing and advertising insights. We are the people who buy their products, therefore, they need to know how we think.
It's not necessarily a bad thing either. If companies didn't focus on their customers, they would not be able to provide the types of services that their customers desire. It only makes sense that they would do everything in their power to get this information, even pay for it.
This brings us to the here and now, the internet. This method of collecting feedback has gone online, and companies are developing surveys for people to take from the comfort of their own home. People are now doing them at their own leisure, without having to head into work and getting stuck in a traffic jam.
And in my opinion, it's only fair. If you are going to spend your time and energy giving feedback to a company, they better give you some compensation. The only downside of this whole thing, is that some companies are getting cheap and only offering you peanuts or nothing at all to get this info. So how do you separate the good from the bad?
