Is a Home Based Career your style? Many people have the notion that working at home is a breeze and you can pull back on the commitment. Well you can if that is the intention, to work less and wander around in slippers allday drinking coffee. Lots of options exist such as Freelance writing, Marketing, being paid for Surveys, Photography, Loading Advertisements, in fact there has never been a more buoyant time to be finding a career to be based at home Challenges I'm not going to pop your bubbly intentionally; however there are some challenges involved. It can be lonely, it takes a lot of self motivation and drive due to the temptations to just swan around, and there is always those nagging undone things that you feel you must do. The truth is, working at home is usually a lot harder than working in an office somewhere. The moral network and camaraderie is not there unless you have a great support network during the week. This can be easily overcome of course as online relationships are easy to find and nurture. Plus if you have others in the same home career as you then you should be catching up during the week to swap notes, egg each other on and provide that team feel. Questions to Ask Other points to consider are, how much do you want to earn and how hard do you want to work. Some positions pay less than in the office however there are some that pay more. So you need to be choosy about what you are prepared to do and the financial target you have. Some jobs, like virtual assisting, web design and graphics, medical transcription and coding and other professional jobs will probably pay more than a simple data entry or customer service job. Some home careers pay a fixed sum. For data entry work, you might get paid per piece, and for telephone jobs you might get paid per minute (only those minutes you are actually on the phone with a customer.) There are generally no benefits because most at home careers are a freelance style so you are self employed yet not exactly running a business because for a lot of the opportunities the work is provided and it is just a matter of doing it and getting paid rather than having to build business and seek clients and financial financial arrangements etc. Who are you? So how motivated are you? This is one of the first big questions you need to ask yourself. If you are lacking in this department then working at home could be hard slog. You have to be extremely disciplined to sit down at the computer, log in and actually WORK each day. There are so many distractions in the home that will pull you away from work if you let them. You need to be very focused and disciplined with your daily routine so you had better sort this out first. Are you a very gregarious person who desperately needs team socializing each day? Then you had better have some mechanisms in place because you will get lonely. Is childcare one of your main reasons for wanting to work at home? Then don't expect to not use day care. Have you ever tried to work at home with a child needing attention? This depends again on how much you intend to work of course. If it is a few hours here and there then something like Paid Surveys could be ideal as they can just be done around your life. If it is another home career that needs a structured work day then this could be struggle. There are many other factors for you to think about as well however we have run out of time. So the idea here is for you to start thinking about the downsides as well as the plus sides then start looking at the opportunities with a questioning mind. Good luck if you decide to work from home. There are numerous opportunities adn it can be very rewarding.
